Hearing Protection
At Echowell Audiology, we care about your hearing. Discover why noise protection and custom ear plugs are essential for preserving your auditory health
Why do I need to protect my hearing?
Maintaining good hearing is essential for supporting various brain functions including your cognition and memory. Ensuring your hearing is in tip top condition contributes to long-term health and happiness. There is still a stigma around hearing loss despite being amongst the most common health conditions. Here at Echowell Audiology, we want to debunk the stigma. Hearing Loss often goes unnoticed in its early stages, leading many to unknowingly allow their hearing to deteriorate. By using effective hearing protection and undergoing regular hearing tests, you can easily monitor your hearing and reduce the risk of hearing loss.
What is a dangerous decibel level?
Sound volume is measured in decibels (dBA or dB). Long term or repeated exposure to sounds louder than 85dBA has been shown to cause hearing loss. As the volume increases, the time it takes for hearing damage to occur decreases.
A good example is a lawnmower. Typically the lawnmower will generate around 90dBA, but it may surprise you that most headphones at maximum volume will easily surpass this level, reaching over 100dBA or higher. Volumes around 70dBA, such as background music in cafe’s and resturants’s or louder conversations can all be listened to for long periods without significantly affecting your hearing.
